Restaurants

When you’re visiting a small community like Coronado, it’s vital to know the best places to eat! After all, that’s the bread and butter of any vacation experience (pun intended). When you need a pallet-satisfying meal, these establishments will take great care of you:

Check the La Playa Community website for monthly reports on local happy hours and dining experiences.

The Best Happy Hour

In Coronado, happy hour is the prime time for the expat community to get together, sharing news and experiences, and conducting business.

  • Picasso Bar & Restaurante – Wednesdays starting at 5PM. Longest running and biggest happy hour in Coronado. This is a common meeting place for local gringos and expats.

Upscale Dining

  • Segundo Piso Restaurant – Offering fusion cuisine, you’ll find Segundo at the Coronado Golf Club open Fridays and Saturdays only from 6PM-11PM.
  • Luna Rossa Restorante & Pizzeria – This is the place for some of the best Italian food in the area. The owner is from Florence, Italy and your taste buds with thank you for the authenticity.

Mexican/ Spanish Style

  • Cholo’s Comidas Mexicana – Said to have the whole package: ambiance, great food, friendly service and affordable prices. The margarita’s are especially good as well.

Italian / Mediterranean

Todo Sabor, located in the heart of San Carlos at the base of the San Carlos Beach Inn, is ranked #1 restaurant in San Carlos. The Sicilian owners prepare authentic Italian dishes that do not disappoint. It has a great casual ambiance for couples or families, with limited seating to keep it intimate with the owners.

Buona Cucina is local favorite for great Italian food, but the small dining room means you may want a reservation so you don’t have to wait too long for a table.

If you’re looking for a variety of quality pizza, fresh salads, and delicious paninis, then Gourmet Pizza is the spot for you. They also have many great chicken and fish dishes that will keep you coming back. Whole wheat options for pizza and pasta are available.

American Flair

  • Café Coronado – Familiar items like a Philly Cheese Steak and hot dogs as well as breakfast, many reviewers claim this is the best place to eat in Coronado. Just remember that it’s open only 4 days a week.
  • California Burgers & Beer – Reviewers rave about the burgers here, stating they are much like burgers found in the U.S. And the banana shake isn’t bad either!
  • Locos Coronado Grill – While the location and atmosphere may leave something to be desired (unless you like the atmosphere of a shopping center), the fish and chips are pretty darn good!

Regional Favorites

  • Asados Del Campo – This is the place to go if you’re looking for barbeque (signs read “Los Mejores Asados En Leña” – the best wood-roasted food).
  • Pantay Restaurante – If you’re looking for seafood, this is the place for you. Often the owners greet you at the door. Live music really adds to the dining experience.
  • El Rincon Del Chef – This is one of the more popular restaurants for the locals, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The owner’s goal is to offer good food at a great price and he accomplishes this well.
  • Todo A Carbon – Fresh chicken roasted on an open fire pit in the middle of the restaurant. It’s bound to leave you drooling for more (which you could afford because the prices are more than reasonable).

Tea Rooms & Cafés

  • Café Viana – A bakery and coffee shop that offers everything from croissants and quiche to chocolate chip cookies.
